If you're not a handloader, the .44 Magnum is the only way to go. It has light .44 Special loads that you can use for practice, and it also has full house .44 magnum loads you can use for deer hunting. The .44 Mag is a lot more versatile than the .45 Colt with factory loads. It's a no contest for me. I've owned several .44 Magnum revolvers but none in .45 Long Colt.
